Posted on Apr 22, 2016

Between April 23 and May 14, Graduate School USA’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) team will administer a project titled “Fostering Economic Development in Municipalities.” The four participants, all from Montenegro, include the President of the political party Democrats of Montenegro; a Chamber of Commerce Policymaker; a Vice Mayor; and an NGO Secretary General. In addition to visiting Washington, DC, our group of four participants will travel with two interpreters to Orlando; Phoenix; Portland, Oregon; and Detroit.

This project will examine the U.S. system of decentralized local governance as it relates to municipal economic development and civic engagement. The group will be meeting with officials at all levels, including State Department personnel, local mayors, city administrators, permitting and zoning offices, and others to learn how U.S. municipalities are governed and the checks and balances involved.
