Home / IVLP: Virtual Program Opening at the Graduate School USA
Posted on Jul 18, 2016
On Monday, June 27th, Graduate School USA’s International Visitor Leadership (IVLP) team conducted a virtual project opening in conjunction with its local program sponsor, The World Affairs Council of Seattle.
The welcome and introduction to the program was conducted via teleconference. Graduate School USA’s Online Learning Department coordinated the web conference room utilizing Adobe Connect software. This flash-based tool runs video smoothly, and allows the presenter to display a PowerPoint presentation alongside the video broadcast. A customized background was also provided by the Distance Education Technology Specialist who oversaw the virtual opening. The background for this particular occasion was the U.S. Capitol dome.
Following the project launch, the group of seven English language professors from the Centro Venezolano Americano del Zulia traveled under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. They embarked on an 11-day professional exchange program, visiting Washington, D.C.; Seattle, WA; and Des Moines, IA as part of the “American Culture and TEFL Education” project.
In Venezuela, the center fosters a welcoming environment where visitors and students can connect and learn about the United States. The “American Culture” project showcased the variation and distribution of the U.S. English language and enhanced the participants’ understanding of American culture and history. The international visitors remarked that as a result of their participation in the IVLP, they are better positioned to update their organization’s academic programs and implement an insightful and interactive American cultural awareness program.
