# AI Security Fundamentals for the Cyber Workforce Course (Self-Paced)

Canonical URL: <https://www.graduateschool.edu/courses/ai-security-fundamentals-for-the-cyber-workforce-self-paced>

## Overview

Most organizations are now consumers of AI, not just builders, which means every security professional needs to treat AI systems as part of the attack surface. This foundational course assumes general cybersecurity knowledge but no AI/ML background. It explains what AI and machine-learning systems actually are in security terms, then walks the AI threat landscape using MITRE ATLAS, the risks of LLM-based applications using the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, and the expanding attack surface of autonomous AI agents. Learners connect it to the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and finish with the practical defenses and workforce habits needed to fold AI into everyday security work.

## What you'll learn

- Explain what AI/ML systems are as a security attack surface
- Distinguish traditional ML, generative AI, LLMs, and AI agents
- Navigate the AI threat landscape using MITRE ATLAS
- Threat-model LLM applications with the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications
- Assess the risks of autonomous AI agents and excessive agency
- Apply the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (Govern, Map, Measure, Manage)
- Apply baseline AI defenses: inventory, input and output filtering, least-privilege tool access, monitoring, and human review gates
