## Overview

The Government AI Foundations Bootcamp gives government professionals a practical, job-focused introduction to artificial intelligence and its role in public service. You’ll learn what AI is, how it works, and how it’s already being used across government, including key topics like machine learning, language models, and ethical and legal considerations. The bootcamp also strengthens data literacy through hands-on exercises that help you use data with confidence, and builds prompt engineering skills so you can communicate with AI tools and apply them to real government tasks.

As part of the program, you can also choose one of two additional courses at no cost to expand your learning. AI Ethics for Federal Employees focuses on responsible AI use, covering ethics, risk management, and policy frameworks with practical examples for government work. AI Agents for Government Workflows explores how no code AI agents differ from traditional automation, how they support government operations, and how to design agent-driven workflows while maintaining human oversight and policy compliance.

## What you'll learn

- Learn to define artificial intelligence and foundational concepts related to data, language models, and neural networks.
- Craft clear, effective prompts and engage productively with AI tools to obtain accurate, useful results and see how prompt design influences AI responses and outputs.
- Interpret AI outputs and basic data visualizations relevant to government programs and day-to-day work.
- Apply AI and data tools to support government tasks such as analysis, decision-making, and policy research.
- Identify ethical, privacy, and data security risks associated with AI use, especially when working with sensitive government data.
- Apply responsible AI and data literacy practices to improve efficiency and support appropriate use of AI across government operations.
- Apply U.S. government AI principles to assess risks, accountability, readiness, and limitations, and communicate effectively with technical teams and vendors to support responsible adoption.
- Choose between learning core ethical principles for AI in government and how to mitigate ethical issues in AI initiatives, or exploring what AI agents are and how they differ from agent-enabled automation.
