# WordPress for Coders Course

Canonical URL: <https://www.graduateschool.edu/courses/wordpress-for-coders>

## Overview

If you already know HTML and CSS and want deeper control over WordPress, this course is for you. While WordPress allows you to do a great deal without coding, certain tasks can only be done by web developers—or are faster and more effective—when handled with code.

In this class, you’ll learn to install WordPress on your local computer for code editing and testing. You’ll use code to customize WordPress, work with themes, edit CSS, and more. You’ll gain a stronger understanding of what happens behind the scenes in WordPress and how to work with it.

Some PHP knowledge is helpful but not required for this course.

## What you'll learn

- Learn how to use code (HTML, CSS, and PHP) to customize or control various parts of WordPress
- Use CSS code to customize WordPress themes (which control the appearance of a WordPress site)
- Install WordPress locally so you can write and test your code
- Learn WordPress developer best practices
- See how WordPress code functions behind the scenes so you can gain a better understanding of how WordPress works
