Welcome back. My sincere hope is that as you evaluated that recent project, you could see elements of collaboration, where you were working with one or more people who have different skill sets to produce something. My hope is that you could see teamwork, where the qualities and abilities, and processes of working well together existed in that group, and that you could work towards a common goal.
And that ultimately, what you really experienced was collaborative teamwork. And collaborative teamwork is engaging the group to combine your expertise and solve problems together. And at the same time, you have your individual roles and responsibilities that you contribute autonomously, so that everything that everyone does contributes to the high-quality result.
Collaboration, teamwork, and collaborative teamwork are what you really want. That takes us to the end of module five. So as we look at the key takeaways from module five, well, first of all, you need to know whether you're leading a work group or a team, or you're a participant in a work group or a team.
Remember, they are different structures. If you are a team, you will go through five stages of development: forming, storming, norming, performing, and a journey. Never underestimate your ability to influence your success.
Your presence matters. Not much happens without effective communication. And you know what? That collaborative teamwork, that's the thing that engages the group to combine their expertise and solve problems together.
My goodness, that brings us to the end of leading through relationship building. So, as we close out the course, I'd like you to consider the top three changes that you personally are committed to making in your leadership approach. Are you focusing more on building a network, or building your EI, or building your conflict resolution skills, or building your skills as coaches and mentors, or building a collaborative team, or all of the above?
And certainly, as you're closing out this course, I wish you the very best success in your forward motion as you are emerging as a leader. Good luck.
