This introductory course gives you practical knowledge of the methods and strategies that form the foundation of modern project management theory.

Learn the Phases of Project Management

1. Initiation: developing a proposal
2. Planning: setting timelines, preparing a budget, and communicating with stakeholders
3. Execution: identifying and resolving issues related to project scope, budget, challenges, and risks
4. Monitoring: ensuring project quality through ongoing oversight
5. Closing: finalizing the project and transferring deliverables

After a general overview, we’ll take a closer look at the first two phases (Initiation and Planning). In the Initiation phase, you’ll work on identifying and selecting projects, creating a project charter, and drafting a project scope document.

Next, we’ll explore the Planning phase, where much of a project’s success is determined. In the first part, you’ll learn to create diagrams and charts and understand the importance of interpreting them. In the second part, you’ll gain technical skills in applying strategies for concepts such as float and resource management.

What It Takes to Be a Project Manager

We’ll wrap up with a discussion on project managers and what makes them effective. You’ll learn about key skills and traits, the critical role of delegation, and proven strategies for managing change.

This one-day workshop ends with a brief overview of project management software/apps, professional associations, and certifications. You’ll receive a slide deck containing both practical insights and hands-on exercises. This class is ideal for anyone seeking an introduction or refresher on project management theories, methodologies, concepts, and practices.
