The instructor's real-world examples and personal knowledge and applications of the rules and statutes make for an effective training style. The breakout sessions were extremely helpful in effectively consuming and processing the materials. It was a great course, and I look forward to taking it again in the future as a refresher. Perhaps a shorter but more frequent refresher would be effective for continuing to develop leadership skills and the subject-matter knowledge base.
I was dreading a week-long virtual class. Instead, the combination of "large" (25-person) lecture with smaller group break-out sessions worked well. The class was sufficiently interactive to keep us engaged throughout the week. Daniel Kowalski was excellent. He is knowledgeable about the topics covered and served well as both a lecturer and a discussion leader. He also came across as pleasant and easy to deal with. He did well to bring his own experiences from the HR world into the discussion.
I enjoyed the course and the instructor. Learned a great deal about the material. I will apply this knowledge to my daily activities.
The instructor was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the course materials. The content & materials were clear and concise. Overall, the course was extremely helpful, being a 1st yr. supervisor.
I had an excellent overall experience. Daniel (Dan) was an outstanding instructor who clearly demonstrated years of subject matter expertise and development in Human Resources Management for Supervisors and Managers. The classroom content and materials were highly informative, well-structured, and easy to follow. The entire training and learning experience was engaging, professional, and extremely valuable.
Take a chance and take the course. The New Leadership Program is not only an investment in you as an employee, but it is an investment in you as a person, for you grow in unimaginable ways. Of course, you get out of it what you are willing to put into it, so do not shortchange yourself. Set aside this time in your life to allow yourself the space to grow as a leader. Get the leadership tools, knowledge, and strategies needed to make you more effective and competitive. Everyone's experience is unique to them, but opportunity comes to everyone who works the program. I am proof that the program works, for it not only changed the course of my career by opening doors that I could not have opened otherwise, but it also changed the course of my life for I now have a network of professional contacts and friends that makes going to the next level more achievable.
Dan is a real subject matter expert. He delivered expert training with helpful real-life examples. He was kind, professional, and inspirational.
The morning and afternoon energizers were a lot of fun. Got me, the other participant, and the observer working as a team. The instructor was very enthusiastic. Strong knowledge of the subject matter. Encouraged others to share their experiences regarding the subject matter. Great sense of humor.
When I joined this class, I was worried about the amount of work, as my job is a lot of work in itself. I also am not a fan of group projects, BUT my group is what got me through this program. Without them, I would not have grown as much as I did. And the activities and the rotations really helped me see that I can grow, and there is more to work than Contracting. I thoroughly enjoyed my DA with the FMS team!
Overall, this program allowed me to expand my network and gain valuable organizational insights into my agency. I also made friends for life! Thank you, Deb, for everything! I particularly appreciate you for answering my many questions and helping me to stay on track. Likewise, you were able to troubleshoot any tech or assignment issues quickly.
The NLP strengthened my ability to analyze organizational challenges, communicate with clarity amongst my peers, and gave me the tools to gain the courage to lead with purpose. The experience affirmed my long-term commitment to the desire to grow into roles that influence people, culture, and mission outcomes. Thank you, NLP team.
The instructor was good, and the content was informative and relatable to the current climate.
I had a fantastic experience with this class. The content was comprehensive and well-organized, making complex topics easy to understand. The instructor was supportive and engaging, creating a positive learning environment. I feel more confident and inspired to apply what I’ve learned. Highly recommended for anyone looking to deepen their knowledge in this subject!
Great class!
The instructor created a great balance between content and class discussion/participation. The class was clear and easy to understand/follow.
I had a great time learning this material. The instructor was very clear, concise, and knowledgeable on the subject. Learn to be great, and have fun doing it.
Great class, I will be applying what I learned to better serve my organization. I finished the class with a better understanding of how to deal with all types of customers and how to apply myself to better understand their needs.
The instructor is very positive, highly engaging, and communicative. I appreciated the fact that our class only had two students because the course exercises made interactions beneficial. The course material was clear and well-organized.
Heather Murphy Capps is very detailed and knowledgeable about the topic. The class was interactive and went well.
The instructor was easy to relate to and understand. I loved the interactive format. Time didn't move slowly like in some training sessions.
Highly effective presentation from the instructor.
This is another amazing building block offered by Graduate School USA. I really enjoyed the class. Amazing recommendations and feedback from the instructor on managing multiple priorities.
The instructor was great and moved at a great pace while allowing everyone to share and participate. The vibe was welcoming and professional. I enjoyed the thought-provoking exercises. The small group class size was also a bonus, as I don't think the class would have produced the same level of personalized learning with a larger group.
Carol is a great instructor. She is knowledgeable and engaging. I've taken the introductory supervision course several times over the years due to the OPM requirement and the leadership philosophies of my various agencies. This is one of the better sessions.
I liked the course, and I found value in the information presented. Ms. Carol McCreary-Maddox gave me some tips to consider and put in practice. She is a great instructor! Her delivery of the information kept the class engaged. She offered different perspectives that expanded my thinking and approach to supervision.
This is my first time taking a class with Graduate School USA and it was a great experience. The instructor was very knowledgeable, and she was able to make the content more understandable by using workplace-friendly language.
The class had a good instructor who was very knowledgeable.
This class has really helped me understand my mistakes at work and I have a game plan moving forward to better my work experience. I feel confident attacking my future issues. The instructor was enthusiastic, interactive, fun, and relatable.
The course strengthened my understanding of how leadership and communication impact employee relationships. It increased my self-awareness and gave me practical tools I can apply immediately in my work. Ms. Johnson was very engaging and professional throughout the course. She shared a lot of real-life experiences and practical examples from actual workplace situations, which made the learning more meaningful.
This course genuinely changed my perspective in life and I'm a better person because of it. One cannot put a price on that. Thank you.
ELP reinforced that leadership is a continuous learning process. It encouraged me to seek feedback, reflect on my experiences, and remain open to growth. I no longer see leadership as a position to attain, but as a mindset to practice daily, a mindset rooted in accountability, empathy, and purposeful action.
One of my favorite experiences in the Executive Leadership Program was interviewing the mayor of my city, which pushed me far outside of my comfort zone and reminded me that growth begins with courage. I also had the opportunity to interview four incredible women in leadership whose personal stories inspired me to be not only be a stronger leader, but also more confident in who I am and how I lead. These experiences will stay with me long after the program ends. Thank you for an amazing opportunity!
I learned a lot during ELP. It was great to work in a team and to have so many activities to complete during the program. The experience of arranging and scheduling these activities taught me to take ownership over my leadership journey. Most of the instructors were great and Heather, the program coordinator, was responsive and offered helpful advice.
Overall, ELP provided me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge and professional development. The class exposed me to various leadership styles and significantly enhanced my professional development. I would recommend ELP to anyone who is interested in professional development or holding a leadership position within their career.
The instructors are very knowledgeable and prepared for each class session. They engaged with the classes, even though the classes were virtual for the most part.
My overall experience has been eye-opening and rewarding. I have gained a wealth of knowledge about leadership, and have met new people during my journey. While the shutdown delayed the completion of a few assignments, the Graduate School USA staff have all been supportive and understanding during these challenging times.
The Executive Leadership Program was a positive and rewarding experience that provided valuable and practical knowledge. The content and instruction will have a lasting impact on my professional development.
I learned a lot about myself in this course. Being a leader was always in me, this class taught me that I just needed help navigating my way to it.
I'm so glad that I joined the ELP. The course challenged me like I have never been challenged before. It made me a much better leader and I have learned so much that I can share with my agency and others.
My overall experience with ELP was amazing. You never know who is watching you as a leader, which is why your smallest actions often matter the most.
The instructor was very helpful, supportive, and engaging. The course was very well worth the time.
The course allowed us to meet teammates in different sectors of the government. It is self-paced and the participants get out of the program what they put into it.
The Executive Leadership Program provided an invaluable journey in leadership development that strengthened my ability to lead people effectively. Through carefully curated competency-based activities that built upon each other, I was able to expand my knowledge, gain practical experience, develop a network of contemporaries, and learn to increase my impact as a mid-level leader; the focus of "leading people” proved applicable to many daily responsibilities, and the totality of work created a comprehensive framework for understanding and practicing effective leadership. I’m particularly grateful for Heather Murphy Capps’s exceptional coordination throughout the program, and I highly recommend ELP to any GS-11 to GS-13 employee seeking to enhance their leadership capabilities and prepare for greater responsibilities within their respective department.
I had a great experience with the program. Though there were difficult times throughout these last 9 months, its great to feel accomplished after completing the program.
ELP was one of the best training/development experiences I've had in my government career. My mentor told me to use it like a golden ticket and seek out experiences that I'm interested in. I met some incredible people within my team and was able to experience things I never thought I'd be able to do. I interviewed high-level executives, shadowed interesting people, and went on an eight-week long developmental assignment to put my leadership skills to practice. I would highly recommend this course.
Overall, my experience in the Executive Leadership Program has been both challenging and rewarding. It pushed me to step outside my comfort zone, think more strategically, and reflect on my leadership style in real-world situations. Through team projects, interviews with senior leaders, and self-assessments, I gained a deeper understanding of how effective leadership shows up in practice, not just theory. The program strengthened my confidence, communication skills, and commitment to continuous growth as a leader.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the course. Graduate School did a great job, given what was going on with the shutdowns.
I had a great experience with this course. I loved the conversational, hands‑on style and how the instructor used real-life examples instead of just slides. The small class made everything feel personalized and helped me apply the content directly to my new supervisor role.
The content was really helpful and the delivery is something I felt like I can apply to my role as a manager. I appreciated the instructor tailoring the content to the participants and his expertise. Great experience! I'd highly recommend this course to others.
The instructor was full of information and detail. Really appreciated all the additional insight on the coursework, specific cases, and willingness to answer questions.
