The instructor's real-world examples and personal knowledge and applications of the rules and statutes make for an effective training style. The breakout sessions were extremely helpful in effectively consuming and processing the materials. It was a great course, and I look forward to taking it again in the future as a refresher. Perhaps a shorter but more frequent refresher would be effective for continuing to develop leadership skills and the subject-matter knowledge base.
I was dreading a week-long virtual class. Instead, the combination of "large" (25-person) lecture with smaller group break-out sessions worked well. The class was sufficiently interactive to keep us engaged throughout the week. Daniel Kowalski was excellent. He is knowledgeable about the topics covered and served well as both a lecturer and a discussion leader. He also came across as pleasant and easy to deal with. He did well to bring his own experiences from the HR world into the discussion.

A lot of information was provided, and the class was a good starter for reviewing the basics of federal employee relations. The instructor discussed class material and gave real-life examples in relation to it. She reviewed exercises and discussed how cases had been handled.
The Federal Employee Relations (Basic) course provided an in-depth and well-structured overview of essential topics relevant to federal workforce management. The discussions on the roles of key agencies, including OPM, MSPB, EEOC, OSC, and FLRA, clarified the administrative processes that support employee relations, while the material on workplace rights and expectations helped highlight the balance of responsibilities between management and employees. Modules on distinguishing between conduct and performance issues and taking performance-based actions under 752 were particularly impactful, offering detailed guidelines and real-world applicability. I also found the sections on probationary periods and investigations highly beneficial, as they provided clear rules, best practices, and strategies for navigating challenges, such as gathering evidence and addressing uncooperative witnesses. These elements collectively strengthened my understanding of procedural requirements and proper implementation of workplace policies.
I had a good experience. As someone still new to HR with less than 10 years of federal service and HR experience, I am still learning. I appreciate the instructor sharing the knowledge she gained over her years of experience.
My overall experience was wonderful. I surprised myself with the amount of engagement I relayed. Usually, I am shy with verbal communication, but this class made it easy to be relaxed and open with communication. Candace Samuels was a wonderful instructor. She is people-oriented and motivated the class to engage in all sessions. She shared her exemplary knowledge of quals and other human resources experiences.

If you want to understand Qualification Analysis, take this course. It is all-encompassing and allows you to understand how critical it is to get the right information in order to ensure that all applicants are given a fair opportunity. Carla Smocks is very knowledgeable and personable. She shared relevant examples from her own experience to augment the material. Her facilitation skills were excellent - she acknowledged contributions from everyone and made sure our questions and concerns were addressed.

As a first-time Civilian HR Specialist, this course was amazing. It captured numerous basic Civilian HR programs that could/will be applied to everyday scenarios. Deirdre Pearson was a great teacher and extremely knowledgeable!
